Tower Hamlets
What a monster. Hard to see how this even looked attractive on paper, to the planning committee at Tower Hamlets, back in the day. Previously a Thistle Hotel (a low-rent hotel brand, if ever there was one) it is now owned by Guoman hotels. Possibly you haven’t heard of them. For years this was the only reasonable hotel accommodation with proximity to the City. What a disappointment it must have been to our transatlantic banking colleagues, to touch down at Heathrow and ask for the Tower Hotel, only to be taken to this pile of concrete elephant droppings deposited near Tower Bridge. Presumably the view of the bridge is some sort of consolation, albeit through that 70s favourite, brown smoked glass.

Here is a shot of a British Airways 747 arriving at London Heathrow Airport's state of the art brand new Terminal 5 just before 5AM yesterday morning.
A few hours later there were chaotic scenes at Terminal 5 due to baggage and check in problems. British Airways had to cancel many flights and refused to pay for customers overnight hotel accommodation.
What an awful start for the British Airports Authority and British Airway's new home at Terminal 5.
Willie Walsh, Chief Executive of British Airways admitted today that it was not BA's finest hour!
